Australian Labradoodle coat types
If the Poodle genes predominate, the Labradoodle’s coat can generally be of two types: wool (curly hair) and fleece. The former resembles the Poodle’s coat, and the latter resembles a sheep’s, except that it is slightly wavy and longer. However, the coat can generally be long, short, soft or harsh, curly or straight.
There is, however, a more explicit classification:
- Straight coat: Very similar to the Labrador’s, only slightly longer or more tousled.
- Curly coat: More silky to the touch.
- Wavy/Kinky coat: More dense and reminiscent of a long-haired Poodle.
The Australian Labradoodle does not have an undercoat. The coat is low-shedding, and the dogs typically have little to no natural doggy odor. However, remember that no dog is completely allergy-free.
Colors and Other Characteristics of the Australian Labradoodle
Labradoodles can appear in a wide variety of colours. The colour spectrum is very broad—from biscuit to black. They have round, large eyes, floppy (pendulous) ears, and a broad, slightly square nose: white, blue, cream, apricot, caramel, red, chocolate, black, parchment coffee, sable, phantom, silver, lavender, fawn (sable), abstract, tiger, merle, variegated (panachée), …
